Authorities are warning the public of a new police impersonation scam

A new wave of scam phone calls has been flooding Southern California, leaving authorities scrambling to protect residents from these slick crooks behind the shady ruse. The underhanded operators are pretending to be police in a shameless attempt to swindle cash from unsuspecting folks.

The frighteningly realistic robot voice urged callers to leave their contacts for a callback that never came.

Understandably, the Simi Valley PD wants to set the record straight definitively - they absolutely do not solicit payments, donations, or handle warrants by phone under any circumstances whatsoever. Their stern message to the community? Residents must stay extremely wary of any unexpected calls aggressively demanding immediate money or intel handovers, as that's a hallmark red flag of these insidious rackets.

If you find yourself being hassled by one of these bogus calls, don't panic—take a pause. Politely but firmly ask the suspicious caller for their full credentials, like name, badge number, and direct precinct details—legitimate law enforcement will oblige such reasonable requests without issue. Under no circumstances should you ever reveal private or financial information over an unverified phone line. If your gut instinct and alarms keep sounding, simply hang up and dial the official public safety hotline to sort out the situation properly.

Regularly refreshing your savviness about the ever-evolving catalog of common tricks and cons being deployed can also hugely help sniff out these wolves in sheep's clothing before they strike. When a dubious caller starts getting belligerent or making extreme demands, that's your cue to disengage and cut them off. Promptly reporting any suspected
