A Russian chess player faces allegations of attempting to poison her opponent during a competition. Security camera footage has become the center of attention, allegedly capturing this disturbing scene.

The video shows chess player Amina Abakarova approaching a chessboard and applying an unknown substance to its surface shortly before a match. The gravity of the situation escalated when her scheduled opponent, Umaiganat Osmanova, unexpectedly collapsed while competing at the very same board.

The incident has drawn the attention of high-ranking officials, including Dagestan's sports minister, Sazhid Sazhidov. According to Distractify, in an official statement, Sazhidov released a statement stating "We find ourselves utterly perplexed by this occurrence," he remarked, underlining the unprecedented nature of the allegations in the world of competitive chess.. "This could have ended horribly." According to Sazhidov, Osmanova did not suffer serious injury.

The video shows Abakarova walking among several chessboards, appearing to rub something on one board before looking around and leaving the area.

Organizers grew suspicious after Osmanova's collapse and reviewed the security footage before contacting police, tournament officials said.

The Russian Chess Federation has temporarily suspended Abakarova from all competitions under its authority pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

Chess officials expressed shock at the incident, noting the game's emphasis on strategy and critical thinking. The incident has raised concerns about player safety at chess events.

Local authorities are continuing to investigate the case. Abakarova has not publicly commented on the allegations.
