HGTV star Christina Haack defended the network against criticism from her estranged husband, Josh Hall, following the release of a preview for their upcoming competition series "The Flip Off."
Hall initiated the public dispute on social media, criticizing HGTV's portrayal of their relationship in the show's promotional material. "HGTV, you've changed," Hall wrote on Instagram Stories, suggesting the network relied on "manufactured drama" due to insufficient ratings from celebrity home designers.
Haack promptly responded to Hall's accusations through her own Instagram Story. "Manufactured?! Pretty sure no one at HGTV told you to be rude to me.... That was all natural," she wrote. To support her statement, Haack shared a dated photograph of herself crying, which she claims was taken on June 21, 2024, after filming with Hall.
The controversy stems from a preview released by HGTV on Jan. 2 for "The Flip Off," which is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 29. The competition series pairs Haack and Hall against her former husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae, in a home-flipping contest.
The promotional footage captures a tense exchange between Hall and Haack during filming. "This is a competition. You gotta pull out all the stops. Whatever it takes to win, I'll do it," Hall states in the preview, followed by "Hall's rule!" When Haack does not echo his enthusiasm, Hall responds critically, reminding her, "Remember, you're a Hall now. Do not get confused in this competition about what your last name is."
The interaction continues to deteriorate as Hall expresses frustration with Haack's communication style. "You know how much sh** you say and I am just like, 'I wish she would shut up already,'" Hall says in the footage. The preview concludes with Hall stating, "My wife is pissing me off already," before transitioning to a scene where Haack informs El Moussa about her separation from Hall.
The public disagreement highlights the personal tensions that emerged during the production of "The Flip Off," which were captured before the couple announced their separation. HGTV has not officially responded to Hall's allegations about the show's content.
