An Indian man, who was declared dead by the government, carried out a violent attack at a local school. Baburam Bhil, from Balotra, India, allegedly attempted to prove he was alive after the government erroneously issued a death certificate in his name.

Bhil thought his property was going to be taken from him and to get the government’s attention, he attacked a local school. The incident, which occurred on July 19 at Chuli Bera Dharana School, resulted in three people being stabbed and multiple hostages taken.

According to reports from WION news, Bhil entered the school armed with a knife and a bottle of gasoline. He allegedly took students and teachers hostage before stabbing two school staff members and a parent.

WION News reports that acting Headmaster Hardayal and teacher Suresh Kumar suffered serious injuries in the incident. Both victims were taken to a hospital in Jodhpur for medical care.

Police arrived quickly at the scene and arrested Baburam Bhil. During interrogation, Bhil allegedly informed the police that he had planned the school attack with the intention of getting arrested. His goal, reportedly, was to be placed back in government records, thereby proving he was still alive.

According to News 18, this wasn't Bhil's first attempt at getting arrested. The news outlet reports that Bhil had previously committed several other crimes with the same objective. However, the specifics of these alleged prior offenses were not disclosed.
