An active-duty Marine has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a reality television contestant whose body was found in a pond in an abandoned neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama, after she disappeared while working as an escort in Pensacola, Florida.
Willie Ellington, 20, stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, was arrested on Wednesday, December 18, following the discovery of Tshey Bennett's body in an abandoned Mobile neighborhood, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to sheriff's officials, Bennett, 26, who appeared on the HollyHoodTV series "Skrippa Bootcamp," was last seen on Saturday, December 14, at the Sweet Dream Inn in Pensacola. She "was working as an escort and had met the suspect at the Sweet Dream Inn at the time of her disappearance," the sheriff's office said.
Law enforcement officials said evidence indicates Bennett was killed in northwest Florida before her body was transported to Alabama. The exact cause of death has not been released, pending notification of Bennett's family.
After receiving a tip about his location, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said deputies arrested Ellington at a bus station in Opelika, Alabama. Ellington also faces charges of possession of child pornography.
"Our team quickly scrambled to the station and set up a surveillance operation. When the bus arrived, investigators spotted and apprehended a man matching the suspect's description," Jones said.
Marine Corps Capt. Jacoby Getty confirmed Ellington's status as a private first class assigned to Marine Aviation Training Support Group-23 at NAS Pensacola. The unit provides specialized training in aviation, cyber operations, explosive ordinance disposal, and combat diving.
"Training command is aware of the ongoing investigation and is committed to working closely with local authorities to support their efforts," Getty told the Pensacola News Journal.
Bennett was featured in the first season of "Skrippa Bootcamp," a reality show following 12 dancers living together while pursuing careers in exotic dance.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office continues to lead the investigation, which spans multiple jurisdictions across Florida and Alabama. Ellington remains in custody at the Lee County Detention Facility in Opelika.
