Police arrested a Florida elementary school principal and teacher for hosting an alcohol-fueled party with over 100 underage attendees, one of whom required medical attention due to excessive intoxication.
When officers arrived at the residence on Jan.19, they say they discovered numerous underage students in matching shirts, many consuming alcohol from coolers spread throughout the area. Police say one intoxicated youth was found unconscious on the front lawn.
The homeowner was identified as Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan, 47, principal of Roosevelt Elementary School in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Police allege Hill-Brodigan was observed turning off exterior lights and entering her home as emergency medical technicians treated the intoxicated juvenile.
Karly Anderson, 45, identified as a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, allegedly approached officers at the scene while intoxicated, according to police.
Following interviews with juveniles and parents, arrest warrants were obtained for Hill-Brodigan and Anderson. The principal now faces charges of child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and hosting an open house party. The teacher is also charged with child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of minors.
Both women were released on bail — Hill-Brodigan on $3,500 and Anderson on $3,000 — according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
Additionally, police arrested an intoxicated teenage driver near the party location. The school district has placed both women on administrative leave pending the results of the police investigation.
School officials express concern and state they are cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the incident. They emphasize student safety is their top priority.
“We are extremely troubled by these accusations and are fully cooperating with the Cocoa Beach Police Department,” the district said. “Our commitment to student safety remains our top priority.”
